The ruler of Caldera, The black dragon of Apocalypse, The Soul Forge King.
Vulkan is a Daemon Prince of Chaos Undivided, Lord of the Salamanders. Once the most faithful Primarch to mankind, he now calls himself the dragon of the Apocalypse, where despair is embodied.
He became the most physically powerful of his brothers since his ascension and the only one with enough power to rival him among his brothers is Ferrus Manus, Daemon Prince of Slaanesh. He was able to both defeat Vashtorr the Arkifane and acquire the Chaos Soul Forge by virtue of his great might, and set the right stage for expressing his outstanding dexterity and craftsmanship in the most twisted way. Since Dawnbringer was destroyed by Curze, Vulkan forged for himself a new two-handed hammer, Urdracule, which has been reborn as a dangerous daemon-weapon that melts enemies with lava and lightning every time it swings. Also, the masterpiece of Vulkan's technology, Draken Scale Armor, was cast again to mock the Primarchs most hated enemies, the Eldar, in a form that resembled their war-god Khaine's incarnation, and was actually imprinted with the fear of all Eldar as Vulkan literally "ate" one of the god's avatars. His children, the Salamander Legion, are supporting relatives subordinated to Chaos, using the The Soul Forge as their fortress and base instead of the planet Prometheus, which was purified during the Heresy.
It would have been a great threat to the guardians of the Imperium if this terrifying black dragon was able to stride freely into the material, but fortunately, that's not happening. This is because an Oath was made by Vulkan himself, on restraining himself. In the past, Vulcan vowed to correct his mistake, seeing residents slaughtered on the planet Caldera. Because of his indecision, his Legion failed to clean up Caldera's Eldar threat faster than they did. On this day, Vulcan vowed to take care of and defend Caldera until the day Caldera was safe from the abhorrent Xenos. After that, Vulkan's burning hatred of Xenos became overwhelming, marking the beginning of his Corruption, but the vow still remained. However, the covenant took effect only when the forces of The Beast reached Caldera.
The unstoppable forces of the Ork WAAAGH! attacked the planet, only to be met by Vulkan's own forces. It is said that his strength alone was enough to crush mountains and cliffs, and not even the greatest Gargant could hope to defeat him. The mysterious Warboos, the Beast, who led the Orks' army, was soon fascinated by this incredibly powerful daemon-fighting WAAAGH! and descended directly on Caldera where the Primarch took the challenge. The five "Beasts" challenged Vulkan one after another, two of whom were smashed by his Urdracule, but the battle was stalled when the remaining three faced him at the same time. In the meantime, the Imperium was able to get time to collect and reorganize its punitive forces, and finally, with the performance of the Sister of Silence, which were mobilized by Lorgar Aurelian, the Imperium was able to destroy the Orks of Ulaanor and the Beast who returned to stop them. However, the devastated Imperial Army could not afford to attack both the Orks and Vulkan's forced swarming on the surface of Caldera, and the loyalist Primarch decided to leave the troubled planet unattended for the time being. By the time the 40th millenium arrived, Caldera had become an exciting holy place for Orks, a battlefield of ethnic resentment, and a place of infinite frustration for Vulkan, bound by the covenant, still struggling to defeat his enemies and take full control of Caldera.
As the Great Rift broke out and Caldera was also swept away by the aftermath, finally the fallen Salamander Legion was able to fully support their father, building a fortress base on the planet's surface and creating a gate with the Soul Forge connected. But Vulkan still has a long way to go from being completely free from his vows. This is because Grand Warlord Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka pointed to Caldera as his next destination. Because of this, numerous large warbands, whether Chaos or Ork, are fighting on Caldera and the nearby planets, and no other force is willing to intervene in this endless battlefield.
